Diwali party games for adults and family: a murder mystery night
Looking for a Diwali party game that is not cards? A printed murder mystery gives the whole table something to solve together.
By Taswiro · 21 October 2026
Diwali evenings are long. Cards, antakshari and charades are fine, but by the second hour half the room has drifted to their phones. A murder mystery gives everyone the same problem to solve, and it works for a mixed group of adults and teenagers.
Why a murder mystery works at Diwali
- Everyone can join, from one person to six at the table
- It runs two to three hours, about one evening
- Nobody has to host, perform or read out a script
- The documents are on paper, so phones go down
How to run it
Pick a quiet corner or the dining table. Put out the sweets, spread the case documents under a lamp, and let people drift in and out. Keep one person writing notes. When the group agrees on who did it, check the answer together.
A good fit for families and friends
The Raizada File is for ages 16 and above, so it suits friends, cousins and parents together. Teenagers often spot details the adults miss, and the adults usually remember the people behind the names.
Gifting it
A boxed case is a gift that makes an evening, not another thing on a shelf. Batch 01 of The Raizada File ships on 8 November, in Diwali week, by India Post across India.
